Car Stories: Collin’s 1967 Chevy Nova
From 1st car to Hot Rod Drag Week, this 1967 Chevrolet Nova is a 2-owner car that started life as a family car and has become a killer 12-second, fuel-injected street car that continues to improve and it has become one of my pride and joys
We bought this car when I was 14 years old from the original owner who put about 80,000 miles on the car. It was a factory V8/Powerglide car with a 283 small block Chevy (we still have the engine), 4-wheel drum brakes, 14-inch bias-ply tires, and the quintessential sheepskin seat covers wrapping the bench seats.
Since then, the past 10 years have included many upgrades, including 5 different engine/transmission combinations, that featured 283, 307, and 350 small block chevy’s engines under the hood.
My goal for this car is to be the ultimate driver car that you can truly do whatever you want with, whether that’s going to the grocery store, going racing, or taking cross-country roadtrips and be able to do it well and be a blast doing it.
And I can honestly say that the Nova has been able to do just that.
In September of 2023 my Nova went on Hot Rod Magazine’s Drag Week n the street machine eliminator class. The car survived the week after what seemed like a 6-month thrash that included changing literally everything in the car except for the seats. And the car was awesome, over the 1,000 mile drive the car did great and ran a personal best pass of 12.56 @ 107 mph!
I am planning on doing a few more things to the car and getting it down into the bottom 12s as well making it a little more comfortable to drive in as well as potentially giving it a little more retro-drag car look.
